Mr. Canington is presently an owner/consultant for Waypoint Advisors, LLC and has previously worked for the following companies:
- Chief Executive Officer of Amplex Corporation, a distributor of U.S. postage stamps located in Dallas, TX. During his role as CEO, John repaid debt of $3.75 million in less than one year, increased sales from $475 million to $600 million in 2 ½ years, created software division projected to add $5 million to sales revenue by third year, grew the client base from 68,000 to 75,000 retail stores, contracted with Microsoft, Disney and The Learning Co. to represent additional products, revamped employee benefit package by adding 401K and medical plans, and established relationships with U.S. Postal Service Board of Governors.
- President of Russell Moss & Associates, Inc., a food broker located in Dallas, TX. As President, John represented 93 major household product companies, increased sales revenue from $120 million to $240 million, brought the Company from a deficit of $50K per month to a profitable level in 6 months, reduced costs by 35%, diversified Company into frozen food category, signed new contracts with Nabisco Cereal Division, Con Agra, Heinz Frozen Division, Del Monte Corp., and Quaker Foods, and sold company to largest food broker in U.S. (Crossmark)
- Senior V.P. of Sales & Marketing for Logistics Data Systems. Not only was John one of the original 5 employees in the start-up operation, he also developed sales and marketing strategy for initial presentations and product launch, organized the sales department and hired sales personnel, was responsible for sales in North America, built sales volume from ground floor to $15 million, sold original key accounts (Wal-Mart, Ralph’s, Lucky and Von’s), and sold the Company to Dunn & Bradstreet in 1989.
- National Sales Manager for Coca-Cola USA. During his time as National Sales Manager, John recruited to develop a national program to stimulate sales in independent supermarkets, was responsible for introducing Diet Coke® to wholesale and cooperative category of retail trade, achieved 100% key account penetration, developed a program that expanded Coke® products at the shelf level by 11% nationally in the independent supermarket category, and developed video presentations for products to over 575 bottlers.
- Region Manager for The Clorox Company. As Region Manger, John opened and organized Clorox’s largest region (central) for the Household Products Division and the Food Division, coordinated with 8 brokers over a 10 state area, introduced 11 new consumer products in a 2-year period, managed marketing funds for region, met or exceeded all corporate sales goals annually for central region.
- District Manager for Procter & Gamble. As District Manager, John introduced Folgers® Coffee in three state area, created New Orleans District and hired sales reps, managed P&G’s largest beverage district, managed $400 million in sales revenue.
Mr. Canington is a Valdosta State University graduate with a Master of Business Administration degree in Marketing and Finance.
